‘Guerrerillo Cultural’ was inspired by an interview with Chicano Poet Alurista, which I sampled for the opening cut on the project. In the interview, he says that he is a “guerrillero cultural”, a cultural warrior who uses “poetry as a weapon”. I of course, am much more of a “guerrerillo” (a diminutive of Guerrero, meaning warrior). This super quick suite of sounds is very Brown. And Radical. I wrote it and performed it all, save where Kat Parent adds voice and guitar. It’s a really accurate representation of where I am in this very moment. The sound, performance, writing, and the feeling.
